It Happened!

Last week we could tell something big was happening in Texas from Early Voting turnout. Today we can say it happened.

As the country and world watched, Texas didn't just inch towards blue with a few isolated flips, it was a total sweep. And Blue Horizon candidates were there every step along the way making it happen.

Today we celebrate and congratulate all of the winners across the state, especially those in the Blue Horizon family.

And we salute the hard work and sacrifice of our candidates who didn't prevail in their own elections but helped make the statewide wins possible by turning out Democrats in the very reddest of districts. This was their win too!

Over the years, we have measured success not by the number of wins, but by the infrastructure built, the experience gained, and the incremental movements in countless districts.

This year we celebrate both.

Our candidates flipped at least 16 seats and counting, with several more races too close to call. We're waiting to hear confirmation about state house flips in College Station, Ft. Bend, and Bell County. Plus county races in Bastrop, Nueces, and Brazoria!

Tomorrow we will send some better formulated reflections and some more wins, but for today, please raise a glass to these Blue Horizon winners!

Just to start.... congratulations to...

  • Two-time Blue Horizon winner and the incoming Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court Maggie Ellis

  • Two-time Blue Horizon candidate and incoming Judge on the Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 9, Holly Taylor

  • Blue Horizon candidate and incoming Chief Justice of the 15th Court of Appeals Jerry Zimmerer

  • Thomas Ray Garcia for Texas State Board of Education, District 2 for winning his race to flip a seat on the State Board of Education

  • Stephanie Guerrero Sáenz for Texas House District 34 for winning her seat and helping flip the Texas House

  • Chris Jimenez for Texas House District 52 for winning his seat and helping flip the Texas House

  • Denise Wooten for Texas House District 63 for winning her race in Denton county and helping flip the Texas House

  • Angie Carraway for winning Texas House District 89 in Collin county and helping flip the Texas House

  • Dock Jackson for flipping Bastrop County blue and winning his race for County Judge

  • Heather Jefts for flipping Williamson County blue and winning her race for County Judge

  • And one of many Blue Horizon wins in Denton County, Candace Valenzuela for your winning race for County Commissioner Precinct 2

  • Katrina D. Moore for Denton County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 for winning your race!

  • Blue Horizon board member, our good friend, and the next Denton County Justice of the Peace Precinct 6, Michelle Netsai Butler

  • Blue Horizon power couple Shree Henderson, the new Kaufman County Commissioner, Precinct 2, and Marcus Henderson, new Kafuman County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, for winning their races

  • Diana Arevalo for flipping a conservative-held seat on the Bexar Central Appraisal District

Finally, we'd like to call out some wins from two very special Blue Horizon family members.

Our friend, 2018 sister candidate who flipped a red seat blue, champion of countless downballot candidates across the state, and Blue Horizon Action Fund Board Member is the next Lieutenant Governor of Texas. Congratulations, Rep. Vikki Goodwin. One of the hardest working candidates out there. We love you and are eternally grateful for all you have done.

Congratulations to our good friend and former Blue Horizon Texas Board Member Clayton Tucker, our next Texas Agriculture Commissioner! Check out this throwback picture from his 2020(?) campaign!
