We have said for months that reasonable candidates can win local elections by building a bipartisan coalition to defeat radical extremists. And the results from Saturday’s school board and local elections just proved it.
Far-right PACs funneled tens of thousands of dollars into the race for the North East ISD school board, hoping to transform the second-largest school district in San Antonio into a Moms for Liberty chapter. With your help, Blue Horizon fought back—providing candidate training for the five pro-education candidates and helping them fight back against their well-funded anti-education opponents.
The results speak for themselves: We helped reasonable, pro-education candidates defeat anti-education extremists in ALL FIVE of the NEISD races on the ballot.
Now the NEISD school board will be run by concerned community leaders who believe our school boards should be focused on providing high-quality public education to our students, not debating a bunch of pet ideological issues that matter only to the most extreme right wing of the Republican base.
In fact, we saw promising signs for the future of our state in election results throughout Texas, with pro-public education school board candidates prevailing from Denton to Victoria and dozens of school board races between, with only a few, but significant, disappointments, such as Dripping Springs and Fort Bend.
In the race for the Alamo Colleges District board, the up-and-coming president of the Bexar County Young Democrats—Nicolette Ardiente—faced off against a 30-year incumbent who had grown increasingly out of step with modern San Antonio. With Blue Horizon’s endorsement and support, Nicolette received almost 46% of the vote. We know that candidates like Nicolette are going to deliver increasingly strong results in future races.
Claire at Blue Horizon Texas provided invaluable training and information for me in a sea of uncertainty. I learned how to make the leap into being a candidate. Claire was able to help me develop my network so I knew who could assist me throughout my campaign. Ultimately, her information was instrumental in achieving success.
— Lisa Thompson, Trustee-Elect NEISD District 1
Blue Horizon is preparing an official recap of this past Saturday’s election results—what happened, what the candidates we supported were able to achieve, and what this means for the future of Texas—so stay tuned for that.
In the meantime, thank you for everything you have done to make our work possible. We’re extremely proud of what we have achieved so far together, and we look forward to keeping the blue horizon expanding in the November election and beyond.
