Coda Rayo-Garza, MA

President

Coda is a former candidate for Texas State House in Bexar County. She currently works as Director of Racial Justice and Gender Equity for YWCA San Antonio and serves on several boards and commissions.

Kathy Cheng, JD

Secretary

Kathy was a 2018 and 2020 Democratic nominee for Texas Supreme Court. She's a legal practitioner from the Greater Houston area and is committed to assisting qualified, passionate rural county candidates.

Spencer Bounds

Director

Spencer was a 2018 Democratic nominee for Texas State House in Midland. He's currently a student at Angelo State University and is former policy director for the Young Democrats of America Rural Caucus.

Jennifer Cantú, MD

Director

Jennifer was a 2020 Democratic nominee for Fort Bend County Commissioner and 2018 nominee for Texas State House. She is a medical social worker, general family practitioner, and early childhood intervention therapist, active in several civic and political groups.

Madi Eden

Director

Madi is a current candidate for Texas House in Bastrop County, was the 2020 Democratic nominee for the same seat, and ran for U.S. Congress in 2018. She co-founded Register2Vote and Civitech, has chaired the Bastrop County Stonewall Democrats, and is a former Democratic precinct chair.

Director

Samantha was a 2018 Democratic nominee for Texas State House in Lubbock. She currently serves as a Campaign Organizing Specialist for Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.

FJ Jones, MEd

Director

FJ was a 2020 Democratic nominee for Justice of the Peace in Brazoria County. She currently works as an Educational Diagnostician in Houston ISD and chairs the Brazoria County Chapter of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats.

Audrey Spanko, MS

Director

Audrey was a 2020 Democratic nominee for Texas State Senate in Northeast Texas (Tyler, Paris, Longview, Texarkana). She is a licensed social worker, helping families seeking medical care and basic needs support.

Mary Wilson, DMin

Director

Mary is a former Congressional candidate in Central Texas (Hill Country, Austin, San Antonio). She is a retired pastor, former math teacher, and current Director of the LGBTQI+ nonprofit, ChrysalisQ.org.

Advisory Board

Our Advisory Board consists of a broad range of leaders in the Texas Democratic coalition. They have deep experience and knowledge of the existing Democratic Party and progressive infrastructure as elected officials and candidates, campaign staffers, grassroots organizers, and leaders of party organizations and allied groups. Representing the diversity of their communities, they help identify existing problems and gaps and propose potential solutions for candidates running in red and underinvested districts across the state.
